Travel in Tibet, 1997

In October, 1997 the authors travelled in Tibet for almost three weeks. We took the bus from Golmud (in Qinghai Province, China), where the rail lines from the rest of China end, to Lhasa to enter Tibet. The ride was about 40 hours, and the highest pass, pictured below on the right, was over 5,000 meters (around 17,000 feet). We explored Lhasa for about a week, and took side trips to a nunnery 4-6 hours away in the mountains, near a monastery, and to Shigatze, the second largest town in Tibet.

All of the pictures below were taken by the authors on our trip.
